§ VI. Provisions for providing adequate utilities.

Latest version.
  • Listed below are the provisions and/or plans for providing utilities for the Riverchase PUD:

    A.

Water. The developed areas of Riverchase are currently being served by the Birmingham Water Works Board (BWWB). The BWWB has on file a copy of the Riverchase master development plan. The mains already installed have been sized to serve the fully developed Riverchase area covered under the plan.

    B.

Power. The area under the Riverchase plan is served by the Alabama Power Company. The Alabama Power Company has recently built two (2) new substations, the Chace Lake substation located on United States Highway 31 adjacent to the South Central Bell Data Center and the Valleydale/Helena substation located on Valleydale Road.

    C.

Telephone. Telephone service in the Riverchase area is provided by South Central Bell. South Central Bell has recently built a substation located at the intersection of United States Highway 31 and Data Drive.

    D.

Natural gas. Natural gas is provided to the Riverchase area by the Alabama Gas Corporation. We currently have an agreement with the Alabama Gas Corporation to provide gas main extensions in the residential area at no expense to the developer. The gas mains installed in Riverchase have been sized in order to provide adequate service for the entire fully developed area of Riverchase.

    E.

Sewer. The Riverchase area east of the Old Montgomery Highway is currently served by the Jefferson County Cahaba River Treatment Plant. This treatment plant is currently under a moratorium; however, the Harbert-Equitable Joint Venture has a three hundred thousand (300,000) gallon allocation under this moratorium which is being used to develop areas served by the Cahaba Treatment Plant. Another treatment plant is being designed to be built in the Riverchase area which will serve the entire Riverchase project south of the Cahaba River. This one point five (1.5) MGD plant will adequately serve the fully developed Riverchase area south of the Cahaba River. The remaining Jefferson County allocation will be used to serve the Riverchase area north of the Cahaba River. Septic tanks or other on-site sanitary disposal systems as approved by the appropriate county health departments are currently in use in the Riverchase area. These means of sanitary disposal may be used in conjunction with centralized sanitary treatment facilities.
